A beautiful and impeccably preserved vintage Seltmann Weiden “Monika” porcelain coffee pot — a quintessential expression of Mid-Century Modern European design, crafted in Bavaria, West Germany. Standing 9 inches tall with a capacity of approximately 1.2–1.5 liters, this is a coffee pot of genuine elegance and restraint: a tall, tapered cylindrical body with a long, elegant spout and a minimalist lid knob, its entire surface articulated by a crisp white-on-white vertical ribbed texture that catches the light with quiet, architectural confidence. A piece that needs nothing added to it — the form is the decoration, and the decoration is the form.

About Seltmann Weiden & Bavarian Porcelain

Seltmann Weiden is one of the great names of German porcelain manufacturing — a Bavarian firm founded in 1901 in the town of Weiden in der Oberpfalz, in the heart of the region historically known as the “Bavarian Porcelain Triangle,” where the combination of exceptional local kaolin deposits and generations of craft expertise produced some of the finest hard-paste porcelain in the world. Throughout the mid-20th century, Seltmann Weiden produced dinnerware and serveware of consistent quality and modernist sensibility for the European and export markets — pieces that embodied the postwar German design ethos of functional beauty: objects that were honest in their materials, refined in their proportions, and entirely free of superfluous ornament.

The Monika pattern — with its elegant white-on-white vertical ribbing — is among the most celebrated and collectible of Seltmann Weiden’s mid-century designs, prized by collectors of German porcelain and MCM tableware worldwide for its timeless simplicity and the extraordinary tactile quality of its surface. A “Bavaria West Germany” backstamp places this piece firmly in the postwar period of peak Seltmann production.
